Ach ja, good old times, The Gathering mit Anneke...
Habe sie zweimal live gesehen, so um 2000 herum. Die haben sich immer weiterentwickelt, auch mal stark gegen die Erwartung der Fans, aber immer ehrlich-nachvollziehbar, wie ich finde. Habe leider nach Souvenirs den Hörkontakt etwas abgebrochen (herrjeh, ist ja auch bald schon 10 Jahre her...), von der neuen Sängerin kenn ich noch garnüscht. Möchte das aber natürlich nachholen. Das neue Album steht schon auf dem Einkaufszettel.

also: das schlechthin beste alltime-favorit album (von the Gathering) ist..

(und an alle, die ungefragt meine lieblinge in den dreck ziehen wollen. funktioniert bei mir und meiner riiiiesngroßen fanbrille einfach nicht, ätsch!)

peters the gathering mix:
werd ich nicht so richtig warm mit. instrumental einiges wirkliches tolles dabei. broken glass zum beispiel. aber trotzdem bin ich unschlüssig. vll liegt es an der stimme, die weiß mich nicht zu fesseln, obwohl ich sie beim zweiten durchlauf unter kopfhörern nicht mehr als so negativ fordergründig empfinde. der wow-effekt kam aber noch nicht.
nachtrag: es ist der gesang. eindeutig. aber mit weiblichen stimmen bin ich äußerst eigen. instrumental absolut mein ding.frau-lotte, 12.11.2012 17:22
Umso überraschter war ich, wie gut mir das schon auf Anhieb gefallen hat. Von der Atmosphäre her würde ich das mal völlig schmerzfrei und grob als Mischung aus neueren Anathema + V.A.S.T. + Frauenstimme bezeichnen.
Songs wie 'Amity', 'Alone', 'Marooned', 'Saturnine' oder 'Great Ocean Road' gefallen mir sehr gut und wie ich bemerkt habe, Live sogar nochmal ne Ecke besser. Die 'Alone'-Version von der 'Sound Relief'-DVD ist zum Beispiel einfach genial.
Fazit: Werd ich mir definitiv öfter anhören. Tendiere stark dazu, mir die 'Sound Relief'-DVD zuzulegen und dann mal schaun.LarryRansomInferno, 12.11.2012 18:18
Bei Gathering rollen sich mir die Fußnägel auf.
Nicht unbedingt wegen der Stimme, sondern dem Gesamtpaket.

Prinzipiell erstmal: Der Mix hat einen guten Fluss, transportiert sehr gut die Atmosphäre. Ich hatte sie gar nicht mehr so triphoppig in Erinnerung - einige Sachen könnten glatt von alten Portishead stammen. Anneke hat eine (für meine Ohren) angenehme Stimme, sie klingt nicht übermässig pathetisch oder knödelt sich einen zurecht. Man merkt aber auch, wie sehr die Musik auf sie ausgelegt ist. Ein paar Songs wären ohne sie nur hohle Klanggerüste. Das trifft nicht auf das tolle "Broken Glass" zu und schon gar nicht auf das fantastische Ende von "Travel".
Man kann sich wunderbar in den Sound von The Gathering fallen lassen, wenn man dem Ganzen eine Chance gibt. Ich glaube, ich werde mir auf jeden Fall die "How To Measure A Planet?" holen - das waren 2 wirklich gute Songs. Die restlichen Sachen hatten ihre Momente, waren mir manchmal zu öde, manchmal hat sich Anneke den falschen Refrain rausgesucht und manchmal bin ich drin versunken. Ist objektiv nicht schlecht, aber einfach nicht meine Baustelle. Liegt hauptsächlich an der Sängerin, so klare, schöne Frauenstimmen sind einfach nichts für mich bei Rockmusik. Sorry, aber merci für's Mühe machen.Woas Sois..., 12.11.2012 18:34
Über Ze Käsering lass auch ich nüscht kommen! Woit ma neulich das neue Album beim Mars/Venus/Pluto wie heißt der doch gleich greifen, war aber nicht mehr im Regal! Naja, bleibt ja noch youtube. Aufgehoben ist aber ned aufgeschoben!
We are almost ready to start our Disclosure tour this friday at P60 - Amstelveen (and Groene Engel - Oss this saturday). Hope to see you all! :) Our Afterlights CD version is also getting more shape. We expect to release it this spring. It will be a normal length CD with 'new' material. Well, new.. The songs are inspired by Disclosure songs but totally rebuild/remade. It's like listening to a new album. People who have the Afterlights 10inch vinyl know what I mean :) More news will follow. But first: live modus on! We have quite a trippy/rocky setlist with a lot of Disclosure material! We are looking forward to play again after such a long time!

"afterwords" is here!
We have finished a 43 minute record called ‘Afterwords’, which will be released on CD, LP and is now available in different new package combinations. It contains nine tracks, which are listed below.
This release is a special one. Besides the three songs released on the ‘Afterlights’ EP in 2012, the new album brings two fresh Disclosure remakes. Remakes means not that we 'just' remixed those songs. With elements from 'Disclosure' tracks we (re-)build some totally new tracks! Also, there are three brand new songs we can’t wait to share with you. One of them is the title track ‘Afterwords’, a song with some stunning vocals of our friend and founding TG member: Bart Smits. It shows the other side of Bart’s dynamic voice. Last but not least, there is a cover song called ‘Areas’ from eighties synth pop band ‘New Musik’. On ‘Afterwords’ we have worked again with Noel Hofman who played some great trumpet parts again.

Dear friends,
With some great shows and the release of ‘Afterwords’, a special album that had a fantastic response, we had a good year. But looking in the near future we have decided that we all need a break. After almost 25 years of making albums, touring, etc, we need some time to reconsider how we will shape the future of TG. Also, Marjolein has decided to take other directions and go her own path. We have played, toured and made music together for ten years with a lot of joy. She is a great person and musician and she will be missed by all of us. We wish her only good things for the future.
We want to inform you that the shows next week in Nijmegen and Dordrecht (the Netherlands) will be the last ones for a while, and the last ones with Marjolein. We want to thank you for your enduring support, and hope to see you at one of the shows.

Die haben sich auf Facebook ja ein paar erboste Reaktionen gefallen lassen müssen, was ihnen denn einfiele, keine DVD zu produzieren. Ich finde es gerade gut, dass sie gesagt haben, das soll eine einmalige (zweimalige) Sache mit speziellem Charakter sein. Hatten ja auch darum gebeten, nicht die ganze Zeit die Smartphones in die Luft zu recken, hat einige Spaselanten bei uns in der Ecke aber nicht davon abgehalten. Hielt sich aber noch im Rahmen, hab da schon viel Schlimmeres erlebt.

Super Stimmung und Perfomance. Es macht Spaß der jungen Anneke beim singen zuzuhören (und beim hüpfen zuzuschauen).
Fragt mich jetzt bitte nicht zu viel ab bezüglich der Diskographie von the Gathering ab, ok? Ich bin ein Padawan...
Was Gentle Storm angeht: ich habe da mal reingehört und der erste Eindruck war halt Arjen Lucassen nur imo schlechter als Ayreon (bisschen seichter und simpler was in dem Fall mir nicht ganz so gut gefallen hat, das ist jetzt aber aus der Erinnerung heraus und ich habe da halt nur kurz reingehört, also werde ich es mir nochmal anhören)
