AH! KOSMOS – BASTARDS CD | 12'' | DIGITAL

AH! KOSMOS is the moniker of Istanbul-based producer and instrumentalist Ba?ak Günak. Two years from the release of her Flesh EP, AH! KOSMOS is announcing her self-produced, full-length debut for Denovali Records called BASTARDS due out in April 2015. This release will be accompanied by a re-issue of the debut EP FLESH, released for the first time on a world-wide scale and on the vinyl format. BASTARDS digs deeply into the surface and soon turns that hole into a living space, a home for all. Albeit Bastards are not orphans, but they are freed from models or possessions and reckon no top or bottom, no right or wrong. In these interstices, a band of un-mastered sounds and voices are composing a brotherhood of a new kind. This fatherless community of differents that gather and fall apart, meet and clash, now unfolds the horizon of infinite lines and curves, feverish desires and endless sympathies. Spaced-out layers of beats and blissed-out sounds and textures create a sense of slow, echoic wonder that eventually builds to a multi-rhythmic universe of its own.

Supporting the likes of DARKSIDE, James Holden, Kiasmos, Two Door Cinema Club, Emika, Daddy G (Massive Attack) in her hometown Istanbul, AH! KOSMOS performed at remarkable festivals as Rock'n Coke, Babylon Soundgarden, Venice Electro Festival, Budapest Punkurica Festival, Piknik Elektronik in Brussels, Tokyo Electronic Music of Arts Festival and CitySonic Festival in Mons.

Ba?ak Günak has also composed and created sound design for contemporary dance and plays, short-flms and site-specifc performances / installations in several art spaces including Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Prague Signal Festival, 18th and 19th Istanbul International Theater Festival (IKSV), ARENA Theater Festival Nürnberg and Venice ElectroFestival. Recently, she has been invited to the highly coveted Red Bull Music Academy 2014 Tokyo as a participant.

KUBA KAPSA ENSEMBLE - VANTDRAUGHT 10 VOL. 1 CD | 12'' | DIGITAL

Kuba Kapsa is a Polish pianist and composer being the leader of the avant-jazz combo Contemporary Noise Sextet (2006-2014). Beyond that he is a renowned composer for film and theater plays. His latest venture is the first of a sophisticated series of projects of modern classical music bearing the common title "Vantdraught". The first part of the "Vantdraught" series is called "Vantdraught 10" written for ten classical instruments - 4 violins, 2 violas, cello, vibraphone, marimba and piano. The music is largely based on a repetition of individual melodic motifs, which are also quite multithreaded within a given composition. Vibraphone, piano and marimba are written in a “push-pull” combination, being the rhythmical base for every piece, while strings are instantly “questioning and answering” each other whether being supportive to the rhythm or used for the presentation of themes. The common feature of every composition is symmetry, which has been applied to almost every aspect - rhythm, harmony, motifs and themes. The first four pieces of "Vantdraught 10", which are inspired by the works of classical minimalists and early 20th century composers, have been recorded in December 2014 with musicians from renowned Polish ensembles such as Neoquartet and Kwartludium at the concert studios of Radio Gdansk. "Vantdraught 10·Vol.1" will be released on Denovali Records in April 2015. For Vol. 2, which is following up, Kuba Kapsa will present a rather asymmetrical approach to voice leading and rhythm.

"Vantdraught 10·Vol.1" features an astonishing artwork based on "Brotmorgendämmerung" (breaddawn) by the seminal artist duo Kahn & Selesnick.

Petrels returns in May with thunderous new album, Flailing Tomb, to be released via Denovali Records. Taking the exhilaratingly huge sonic expanse that Petrels has become known for and pushing it further still, Flailing Tomb draws on a breathtaking sonic palette of influences and instrumentation to craft perhaps the strongest Petrels release to date.

Flailing Tomb's underlying theme is a many-layered obsession with – and joyous celebration of – the defiance in persisting with lost causes. Building on the mythological foundations of previous albums – Haeligewielle, Onkalo and Mima – Flailing Tomb takes an underlying current that ran beneath each of these and pushes it to the fore. Flailing Tomb draws inspiration from sources as wide-ranging as Ursula K. Le Guin's speculative fiction, Indian-Celtic connections, self-mummification, Jude The Apostle (patron saint of lost causes), and Jean-Luc Godard's seminal sci-fi masterpiece, Alphaville (much of the second-half of the album is adapted from music originally written as an alternate score to the film), weaving all this and more into six intricately-layered parts - at once forthright and ambiguous. With a much broader range of instrumentation and contributors than previous Petrels albums – from the melodic cacophony of album opener We Are Falling Into the Heart Of The Sun, to the euphoric choral backdrop of Orpheus with a lead vocal from NEVER SOL and the epic motorik finale of L. Caution – Flailing Tomb is both an expansion on and refinement of the Petrels sound and an album that confirms the arrival of a singular artist.

Petrels is the solo project of London-based musician and illustrator, Oliver Barrett. Since releasing his debut Haeligewielle in 2011, Petrels has toured across Europe and shared a stage with the likes of Tim Hecker, FIRE!, Nate Young (Wolf Eyes), Trouble Books, Demdike Stare, Nadja, and Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster). Having also collaborated with and provided remixes for artists as varied as Duane Pitre, Brassica, Talvihorros and Max Cooper, Petrels' output is proving to be thrillingly eclectic and unpredictable.

Special "10 Years Of Denovali" Reissue - for the first time available on vinyl and digitally with a new layout and packaging. The Coma Lilies from Santa Rosa (US) being active between 2002 and 2008 toured the US three times, released two records and played an experimental mix of electronic elements, jazz, trash and postrock. The ‘Memento Mori' EP released in March 2006 is now again available as a limited one time only vinyl pressing via Denovali Records. Trademarks of their sound include haunting guitar and keyboard melodies, an innovative energetic rhythm section and a nothing but schizophrenic song structure.

(...) The music spools out of Garratt's mind in the form of extensively screwed up synthesizers, bowed cymbals, liquidated instruments and detuned tape loops. Bounced between effects chains, music software, mixing desks and tape, his materials are then inflated and tampered with, in different venues of a particular significance or suggestive atmosphere. The results are enigmatic, hypnotic and register a note of mourning. They are mercifully free of the obligatory club references of electronic music that's destined for a different mood but nonetheless confines itself to bygone ‘post-club' tropes. “I was listening to a lot of William Basinski, Bowie's 'Low', Swans, Messiaen, Stars of the Lid, Cluster, Eno… Carl Sagan,” remembers Garratt. THE FIRST THREE RICARDO DONOSO ALBUMS NOW AVAILABLE AS A VERY LIMITED BOXSET. Ricardo Donoso has composed a new paradigm of ambient music, in which concrete textures and digital synthesis expand on an abstract world in constant movement & mutation. Under a chain of progressive rhythm's, cinematic textures and elegant melodicism, Donoso's work pushes through with piercing strength, manipulating a sonic wave through space with nothing but pulse and mind blowing intensity.

Although Donoso's work has coalesced into a much broader and dynamic beast, his early work continues to be a source of inspiration. ‘Symmetry' now compiles Donoso's first three albums, lovingly referred to as the “Digitalis Trilogy” which includes Progress Chance, Assimilating the Shadow and As Iron Sharpens Iron, One Verse Sharpens Another in a deluxe 4xLP BOXSET & 3xCD edition. A truly entrancing journey of polyrhythmic counterpoint, the ‘Symmetry' collection takes in influence from minimalist composers such as Reich & Riley, early techno and trance, and lush and deeply harmonic ambient music. It's possible to look at the ‘Symmetry' trilogy as a blueprint to Donoso's later work in both its musical scope & thematic grandeur. Amidst all of its wide eyed, dreamlike states there is always a rumbling of subtle violence piercing just underneath the surface creating a truly immersive experience.

THE FIRST THREE RICARDO DONOSO ALBUMS NOW AVAILABLE AS A VERY LIMITED BOXSET. Ricardo Donoso has composed a new paradigm of ambient music, in which concrete textures and digital synthesis expand on an abstract world in constant movement & mutation. Under a chain of progressive rhythm's, cinematic textures and elegant melodicism, Donoso's work pushes through with piercing strength, manipulating a sonic wave through space with nothing but pulse and mind blowing intensity.

Although Donoso's work has coalesced into a much broader and dynamic beast, his early work continues to be a source of inspiration. ‘Symmetry' now compiles Donoso's first three albums, lovingly referred to as the “Digitalis Trilogy” which includes Progress Chance, Assimilating the Shadow and As Iron Sharpens Iron, One Verse Sharpens Another in a deluxe 4xLP BOXSET & 3xCD edition. A truly entrancing journey of polyrhythmic counterpoint, the ‘Symmetry' collection takes in influence from minimalist composers such as Reich & Riley, early techno and trance, and lush and deeply harmonic ambient music. It's possible to look at the ‘Symmetry' trilogy as a blueprint to Donoso's later work in both its musical scope & thematic grandeur. Amidst all of its wide eyed, dreamlike states there is always a rumbling of subtle violence piercing just underneath the surface creating a truly immersive experience.

ORSON HENTSCHEL – FEED THE TAPE Cd | 2x12'' | DIGITAL

Orson Hentschel is a German composer and producer based in Düsseldorf. Having started to play classical piano at an early age, he now mainly composes electronic, experimental and film music. His debut "Feed The Tape" is strongly influenced by Classical Minimal Music. Especially the compository methods of Steve Reich such as phase variations, looping and imitation enter Hentschel's work. However, these methods serve as characteristic compository elements rather than being in the focus of the pieces. The loop, which often is the starting point of one of Hentschels works, usually plays the role of a constant sound substrate on which harmonic-melodic elements can thrive.

Although Hentschel went through a classical musical education, his compositional techniques are by far not traditional. In fact he does not start with a musical idea, but with searching for suitable sound material. His interest lies in sounds and samples which had been used in a music or film music context before - film audio tracks, soundtracks, music albums, internet, sound libraries etc. He estranges this source material in order to create his own sound - hence the name of his debut album. Hentschel's interest in polyphonic vocal music from the late middle ages - especially ars nova and trecento - stems from his earlier study of musical science in Vienna and Dresden. For this reason two of his pieces (Florence, Slow-Moving) contain music from this epoch in a processed form.

Hentschel does not consider himself as a composer of contemporary music, but as a multimedia artist. He developed his own audiovisual performance, based on the interplay of light, visuals and fog. Moreover he is supported by live drummer Lukas Baumgart and together him and Hentschel create an energy which can be heard as well as felt. His aim is to take the listener on an hour-long journey which brings him to the limits of what he can bear. This is achieved by extended repetitions and long arcs of suspense rather than sheer volume.

MULTICAST DYNAMICS – OUTER ENVELOPES CD | 12'' | DIGITAL

'Outer Envelopes' is the fourth and final installment in the four part album series. It is a continuation of exploring, written on a grid of time by constructing auditive scenes. Technically the album was composed using noise generators, home-made modular synthesizers and experiments with voltages - in short, by combining analogue and digital technology. The album is complimentary to the previous three albums and their logical continuation at the same time. Focused on the animated world of sound, van Dijk transmits celestial soundwaves to discover new uncharted sonic territories. He sends a time capsule out into a fictional space, exploring the unknown and placing sonic beacons which create eerie soundscapes and detailed textures. Together with airy pads and dark shuffling rhythms, these elements form dynamic sequences which display the sonic and embody the thematic evolution of the Multicast Dynamics project. Throughout the four-album series, van Dijk crossed more and more sonic layers, slowly zooming out from a microscopic to a macroscopic scale. Thus Outer Envelopes represents the momentary climax of van Dijks output as Multicast Dynamics - as it closes one chapter, a new one begins.
