SHIPWRECKS may have come across one or two post-rock aficionados already. Newly formed in 2014 out of various Cologne based projects, from the instrumental, independent and hardcore underground, things are really taking off since the release of their debut EP in 2015. With positive echoes across the scene and enthusiastic reviews on blogs as well as established print media, the four young men toured across Europe playing the renowned Open Source and New Fall Festival, as well as supporting the post-rock grandeurs of Immanu El and Explosions In The Sky - a pretty remarkable performance backed by just one EP! Now, after two years of tuning, tweaking and polishing in the rehearsal room and studio, their self-titled debut album is going to be released by Sportklub Rotter Damm and Maniyax Records accompanied by a release tour in late fall. There are signs of an impending storm!

"Es ist nicht die schlechteste Eigenwerbung für eine Postrock-Band, wenn sie bereits im Vorprogramm von Granden wie Immanu El oder Explosions In The Sky aufgetreten ist. Spätestens, wenn dann auch noch Cult Of Lunas Magnus Lindberg gerne das Mastering besorgt und Daniel Julien von EF einen Gastauftritt am Akkordeon beisteuert, ist klar, dass es sich bei den Shipwrecks um eine zumindest szeneintern hochinteressante Truppe handelt. Grund dafür ist, dass es den Kölnern gelingt, ihre höchst epische Version eines so häufig für seinen mangelnden Facettenreichtum zwischen schnöder Laut/Leise-Variation und künstlich in die Länge gezogenem Brimborium kritisierten Genres mit Grandezza und hoher Intensität zu füllen.

Gut: Keines der lediglich fünf Stücke auf »Shipwrecks« ist kürzer als sieben Minuten (»Waldeinsamkeit« ist sogar über elf Minuten lang), durch ihren organischen Sound, ihre einnehmenden Melodien und die bildreiche Suggestionskraft wird es auf der Platte aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt langatmig. Nein: Hinter großen Namen braucht sich die Band wahrhaftig nicht zu verstecken."
